IEG: IBE DRIVING EXPERIENCE, A SUCCESSFUL ENCOUNTER OF EXPERIENCES, BUSINESS AND FUTURE OF THE BUS INDUSTRY

  • + 70% of attendance on 2021 for the biennial event organized by Italian Exhibition Group that came to a close on Wednesday 25 October at the World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Misano
  • Over 500 drivers tested 15 latest generation vehicles provided by major international industrial players at an event focused on electric mobility
  • The bus industry community unanimously endorsed the experience and conference content that launched the industry into the future


Rimini, 27 October 2023 – Up 70% on 2021 attendance, the third edition of IBE Driving Experience, the biennial event branded Italian Exhibition Group held on October 24-25 brought together the public and private passenger transport chain at the World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Misano Adriatico with a series of exclusive test drives, business networking and training opportunities for industry professionals.

A figure that hails the success of an event that has become paramount for the bus industry community, unanimous in identifying the prospects offered by IBE Driving Experience as a means of involving global players and manufacturers, trade associations and public and private transport bus operators with unique opportunities on the industry´s landscape.

OVER 500 DRIVERS TESTING ON THE TRACK
The test drives on 25 October on the 4,226 metres of the Misano Circuit involved over 500 professional drivers, who took to the track on one of the most iconic circuits on the international motorsport scene to test the 15 latest generation vehicles provided by global players at the IBE Driving Experience. Among these, the IVECO BUS buses, part of the Electric Bus Driver Training programme, the first theory plus practical course - which sold-out at its debut - for bus drivers, focusing on electric buses promoted in collaboration with ADDESTRA, Efficient Driving and Pullman magazine.

GLOBAL PLAYERS STARS OF THE SHOW
IBE Driving Experience was also the stage for big names such as IVECO BUS, MAN, ISUZU, KARSAN, PEPPERMOTION - ETROFIT and FOTON to present their electric range. The coach segment was represented by MAN with the updated version of its Lion´s Coach, SCANIA, which took to the track with the new vehicle from its Touring range, VOLVO BUS debuted its VOLVO 9700 Double Decker, and IRIZAR celebrated the first 30 years of Irizar Italia. Also present in the paddock were OTOKAR and KING LONG vehicles.

ANTICIPATING THE FUTURE WITH START ROMAGNA
The event was also the setting for the Open Day: ´School´s out, Start your Future with IBE´, the innovative project developed with Scuderia Start di Start Romagna, the public transport company in Romagna, which saw the participation of 80 graduates from professional schools in the Romagna area. IBE Driving Experience has given rise to a scheme which will also include visits to workplaces in the coming weeks, and end with the selection of a group of candidates who will carry out a training internship at Start Romagna, with the intention of hiring young talents.



CONFERENCES GEARED TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY
High turnout at the conference events, starting with ´Local and non-urban public transport: public and private for intermobility in cities and tourism in villages´, the opening event on Tuesday 24 October which took stock of the challenges intermobility faces in collective tourist transport both in cities and villages. On the second day it was the turn of ´Bus&Coach: new sources of traction, technologies and reorganization of industrial supply chains. Electric driving the repositioning of the bus industry´, which underlined the tendency of manufacturers to abandon the ´one-stop-shop´ philosophy to return to a more traditional business model where manufacturers outsource bodybuilder partners only for the final bodywork. During the IBE Driving Experience, the AN.BTI - National Association of Italian Tourist Buses and ASSTRA - Transport Association board meeting were also held.


NEXT STOP: IBE INTERMOBILITY & BUS EXPO 2024
IEG´s next encounter with the bus industry community will be from 19 to 21 November 2024 at Rimini Expo Centre during IBE Intermobility and Bus Expo, the industry´s leading event in the Mediterranean area and mother event of the IBE Driving Experience spin-off.
