THE OPENING CEREMONY
The States General event was followed by the official opening of RiminiWellness. Corrado Peraboni, CEO of Italian Exhibition Group, recalled the exceptional work that IEG and the municipal administration share. ´For four days, RiminiWellness transforms the Expo Centre and the city of Rimini into the largest open-air gym in the world. A definition that takes a precise snapshot of the effort and attention paid to an event held anew year after year and which has now returned to its full splendour.´
Roberta Frisoni, Rimini´s Councillor for Mobility commented: ´RiminiWellness is a crucial and symbolic event for the city that opens the summer season. It is a source of pride for the territory, which this year makes us doubly happy because it demonstrates the ability and determination to restart just a few days after the recent tragedy that struck Romagna. This is the land where we enjoy being together and in company, and with IEG, we are working in the direction of showing the world that the idea of wellness is at home here.´
Lorenzo Angeloni, Director General for the Promotion of the Country System at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, explained: ´For some years now, we have been aware of how sport and sporting activities can be a driving force in the promotion of our country, not only due to the great results that our athletes achieve, but also as a further lever to draw attention to Italy. Every time I attend an exhibition event, I feel a sense of pride because I see how public support and the dynamism of Italian business is a winning combination.´

The ceremony was also attended by Matteo Migliano, Deputy Vice President of FIDS-Italian Sports Dance Federation, who introduced a performance by the youngsters in the Breakdance Team that will take part in the 2024 Olympics; Gilberto Gibilisco, world high jump champion in 2003 and now Legend and Ambassador of Sport e Salute; and Marcelo Capitani, Italy´s number one Padel player.
Migliano gave a brief summary: ´Break Dance has become an Olympic discipline for the first time. It is an important milestone for us and the Federation, of which we are extremely proud. The guys who performed today at RiminiWellness are part of the Academy in Padua and are the young talents of our tomorrow.´
Gibilisco continued: ´For me, sport is a reason for living and I am here today to promote a healthy lifestyle. We must look to the future of our young people and our primary task is to transmit a healthy lifestyle to them.´
Capitani concluded: ´Discipline, fair play, determination, perseverance. These are the universal values that are part of the DNA of every athlete and that we must pass on to today´s youngsters as they approach a sporting discipline.´

Over these four days of the show, more than 1,500 hours of training and 200 sectorial appointments have been scheduled, with all 28 halls (the entire exhibition centre) and 170,000 square metres occupied between indoor and outdoor areas. For the business world, delegations from over 70 countries are expected to meet the 300 exhibiting brands for a unique networking, training and updating opportunity for every professional and operator involved in sport and wellness on the move.
