° A new themed exhibition area, Key Storage Expo, entirely dedicated to residential and industrial static energy storage and utility scale
° From 28th February to 1st March 2024, in Halls B6 and B7 of Rimini Expo Centre, during the IEG event on energy transition
° Events and conferences, organised by leading industry associations, are scheduled

Rimini, 14 December 2023 – Energy storage is increasing around the world and is essential for achieving the 2030 and 2050 targets and for ensuring flexibility, stability and security for the energy system of the future, dominated by renewable energy production.
According to the European Commission, which recently adopted a list of recommendations to ensure a greater diffusion of energy storage, the market is developing strongly, with 2.8 GW (3.3 GWh) implemented in 2022, for an estimated total of over 9 GWh. The sector is also growing in Italy, albeit amid some regulatory uncertainty: data presented by Althesys show that in the first six months of this year, projects for 560 MW were authorised, going to join the 90 MW already authorised in 2022. Furthermore, the PNIEC (National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan) update envisages reaching around 22.5 GW of installed storage by 2030, of which 11 GW will be utility-scale storage.
In this context, in which accelerating energy storage is becoming more and more of a priority, KEY – The Energy Transition Expo, the IEG (Italian Exhibition Group) reference event on energy transition in Southern Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean basin, has intercepted this need by creating a new exhibition project that will take shape for the first time at the next edition of the show, scheduled to take place in Rimini from 28th February to 1st March 2024.
KSE – Key Storage Expo is the new themed exhibition area that will join the event´s other six traditional sectors (Solar, Wind, Hydrogen, Energy Efficiency, e-mobility and Sustainable City), to provide an exclusive space entirely dedicated to residential and industrial static energy storage and utility scale.
KSE will be showcasing electrochemical storage solutions with the aim of extending its offering to include other energy storage technologies in the future.
The new section will occupy halls B6 and B7 of the Expo Centre in continuity with SEC – Solar Exhibition & Conference, the vast area dedicated to solar and photovoltaic energy, with which it will also share some areas in order to maximise all the synergies that exist between two sectors that are so close, complementary and fundamental for achieving energy transition.
Storage and the fundamental role of this sector will be discussed extensively during the conferences and debates scheduled within the KEY event programme, organised by the Technical Scientific Committee in collaboration with the most important national and international associations.
During the days of the event, a study commissioned from Althesys will analyse the strengthening of storage systems and grids, which is necessary in order to reach the target of 65% green electricity by 2030, contained in the new PNIEC (National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan).
Instead, the conference entitled Addressing the Challenges of Europe´s Solar & Storage Boom (Large-scale Focus), organised by Ibesa – International Alliance for Battery and Energy Storage, will focus on the latest advances, cutting-edge technologies and trends in utility-scale storage in major European markets, offering a comprehensive overview of the industry´s hot topics, from investments to the most revolutionary projects and the exploration of new opportunities in the co-location of large-scale storage systems.
