Highlights, the sport & fitness sector

In Mexico
In Mexico, the sport industry has enormous potential in view of its numerous population of about 130 million, of which about half - 58 million – is under 26 years of age. It is a rapidly growing market with over 12,000 sports clubs counting 4 million members and a sports industry that generates an annual turnover of 1.8 billion dollars (source: IHRSA State of the Mexican Health and Fitness Industry Report)

In the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries
It is estimated that the health&fitness sector is worth about 1.4 billion dollars and that in the United Arab Emirates alone, the market will reach an annual growth rate of 9% between 2018 and 2022. The increase in the fitness sector throughout the GCC, as well as IEG´s expertise in the industry, encouraged the Group´s expansion in the Arab Emirates with last year´s acquisition of the Emirate company, HBG Events.

In Italy
In Italy, fitness enthusiasts involved in this type of activity count about 18 million a year, which makes the country second only to Germany in the European classifications. The turnover of non-antagonistic sports activities linked to fitness in our country is estimated to be about 10 billion Euros a year. A further 2 billion can be added to this from wellness tourism. The last census on fitness facilities in Italy, including specific gyms and fitness areas within larger sports complexes, dates back to 2017 and registered 8,114 centres in our territory.
