Ecomondo 2023 will open tomorrow morning at 10.30 am in the South Hall with greetings from Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Stefano Bonaccini, President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Lorenzo Angeloni, General Director for Promoting the Italian System, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Anna Montini, Rimini Councillor for Ecological Transition, Blue Economy and Statistics, and IEG President, Maurizio Renzo Ermeti.
This will be followed by the start of proceedings of the 12th edition of the States General of the Green Economy, promoted by the National Council for the Green Economy, and this year dedicated to the decarbonised, circular and regenerative economy of tomorrow, capable of generating economic benefits greater than the costs required to achieve it, and therefore an asset to focus on to promote growth. Paolo Gentiloni, European Commissioner for the Economy, will deliver an opening speech via video, followed by speeches from the Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini (from remote), and Laura Cozzi, Director of Sustainability, Technologies and Scenarios at the International Energy Agency (Iea). During the day, a report on the state of the green economy in 2023 will also be presented by Edo Ronchi, President of the Sustainable Development Foundation, from which it emerges that the decarbonisation of the Italian economy alone, against an annual investment of 14.7 billion euros in the 2020-30 period, would lead to direct savings of 6.6 billion a year, moving an induced activity that would ensure greater revenue for the State of 53 billion a year. Furthermore, with 123 gigawatts of new renewables by 2030, there would be 430,000 new jobs, circularity in waste would lead to 97,000 new jobs, and a 261-million-euro investment in ecosystem restoration would generate 10 times more added value.
The 2023 edition of Ecomondo will be divided into six themed macro-areas - Waste as Resource, Sites & Soil Restoration, Circular & Regenerative Bio-economy, Bio-Energy & Agroecology, Water Cycle & Blue Economy, and Environmental Monitoring & Control -, and four new exhibition districts for textiles, paper, and innovation, with an area for start-ups, the green jobs & skills desk, and a large area specifically for the blue economy, in collaboration with Utilitalia. Yet another feature is SAL.VE., the biennial exhibition in partnership with ANFIA, which will host the main manufacturing brands of electrical vehicles for ecological services, waste collection and disposal, and urban cleaning and will include a test drive area.
Companies, technologies and intelligence, making Ecomondo the ecosystem of ecological transition.
