IEG, THREE NEW PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS FOR EXPO AND CONFERENCE CENTRES
The entire system will save the environment 4.5 million tons of CO2, equal to the energy requirements of 2,982 families and make the Italian Exhibition Group´s activities self-sufficient. Rimini, 22 November 2021 – Italian Exhibition Group is heading towards an increasingly more sustainable future. The exhibition and congress group, in partnership with Green Utility, has in fact planned to activate three new photovoltaic systems on its exhibition facilities in Rimini and Vicenza, as well as on the Rimini congress centre. A commitment to move forward in the production of clean energy and in achieving self-sufficiency for its activities.
As of 2022, IEG will have photovoltaic systems for a total installed power of 7,525 kWp and will be able to produce 8.5 million kWh of clean electricity, enough to make all its offices in Italy self-sufficient. This system is equivalent to the needs of 2,982 families and will save the environment 4.5 million tons of CO2.
The starting point is having solar panels on all available roofs, a strategy pursued since the Rimini Expo Centre was inaugurated in 2001.
In 2012, in addition to the photovoltaic panels already on the parking area and south hall roofs, a further 100,000m2 were installed onto Rimini Expo Centre´s ´vaulted roofs´ without altering the architectural profile and using Thin Film (which was an extraordinary innovation ten years ago), making the structure the first self-sufficient exhibition centre in Italy in terms of energy requirements.
The systems, thanks to an installed power of 5,500 kWp, are currently producing about 7 million kWh per year of electricity from renewable sources (the equivalent of the average annual consumption of 2,184 families), preventing 3.3 million tons of CO2 emissions per year.
Now the partnership between Italian Exhibition Group and Green Utility has been further enriched with three more systems that will cover the roofs of the more recently built halls connected to Rimini Expo Centre as well as those on Rimini´s Palacongressi Conference Centre and the Expo Centre in Vicenza.
The first new plant will have a power of 500 Kwp, save 298,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year and produce energy from renewable sources equivalent to the needs of 198 families.
The second will be built on the roof of Rimini´s Conference Centre and will have a power of 325 kWp. 195,000 tons of CO2 emissions will be prevented each year and the energy produced from renewable sources will be equivalent to the needs of 130 families.
The third, which will be built on the roof of Vicenza Expo Centre, will have a power of 1,200 kWp and will prevent 700,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year, producing energy from renewable sources equivalent to the needs of 470 families.
